Business travel is set for a space-age boost!

As technology continues to progress at eyewatering speeds, we have said goodbye to science-fiction and hello to science-future.  Science-fiction has been replaced by science-fact …if the technology doesn’t exist today, it’s pretty safe to say it’s only a matter of time!  No one has proven this quite as dramatically in recent years as SpaceEx CEO Elon Musk.  Musk revealed to an audience at the International Astronautical Congress that he plans to use rockets to allow passengers to travel around the world in less than an hour, for the same price as a traditional flight.  It would be easy to dismiss this as another one of those hair brained schemes were it not for the fact that the entrepreneur’s rocket is being used to launch a manned mission to Mars in 2024.  Musk claims flights from New York to London could take just 29 minutes, and between London and Sydney just 51 minutes.  With the Richard Branson led Virgin Intergalactic project still on the horizon it would appear the commercial space race is very much a reality.

It’s not just in the air that Richard Branson has futuristic ambitions, having announced that the Virgin Group is investing in the Hyperloop One project. The project was first proposed by none other than Elon Musk himself, back in 2013, when Musk stated travel between Edinburgh and London could be completed in 50 minutes using electronic propulsion and magnetic levitation to move a pod at superfast speeds through a low pressure tube.  Branson clearly believes in the project saying ‘The pod travels at airline speeds for long distances due to ultra-low aerodynamic drag.”  For the naysayers who remain unconvinced developers have completed the first full-scale systems test at a site just outside Las Vegas, which Branson said he witnessed first hand.  During the trial the pod reached a maximum speed of 192mph with an acceleration rate equal to 0 to 60 mph in 1.85 seconds.

If and when these futuristic concepts ever reach the market rest assured Traveleads will be amongst the first TMCs in the industry to make them available to you, in the meantime for all your travel needs contact your Traveleads consultant who is standing by to take you boldly into the future!
