Delta Air Lines Trial FREE In-Flight Wi-Fi

Delta is one of the largest providers of in-flight WI-FI in the world, and with more than 1,100 enabled aircrafts, Wi-Fi access is offered on nearly all flights.
Recently, the airline is preparing to run a two-week pilot of FREE Wi-Fi on around 55 domestic flights a day. Passengers travelling on short, medium and long-haul trial routes will be able to access in-flight Wi-Fi free of change regardless of class of travel.
In 2017, Deltas journey began from initially offering free messaging for passengers on select flights operated by aircrafts with two or more cabins. The new 2019 phase now allows passengers to browse, email, shop as well as message and interact on social media. Although, more demanding services such as audio and video streaming will not be available as of yet.
“Customers are accustomed to having access to free Wi-Fi during nearly every other aspect of their journey, and Delta believes it should be free when flying too,” said Ekrem Dimbiloglu, director of onboard product.
“Testing will be key to getting this highly complex programme right – this takes a lot more creativity, investment and planning to bring to life than a simple flip of a switch.”
Dimbiloglu also noted that due to the complexity of the project, it will likely take several more test phases and gathering feedback to ensure the free Wi-Fi Wireless free internet access adds value for passengers.
Delta says test flight segments will change daily, with customers notified if their flight will include free Wi-Fi via email and the Fly Delta app prior to departure. For services not included in the trial, complimentary messaging will still be available, as will Wi-Fi for purchase.
