Meet the team – Alison Carpenter, Director of Corporate Travel (England and Wales)

Alison is our Director of Corporate Travel across England and Wales and has been with Traveleads since 1988.
Here, we find out a bit more about her and what she gets up to in and out of work.
What made you join Traveleads?
Travel is an incredibly exciting industry to work in and travel management in particular, means you come across so many people and industries all over the world.
I initially joined as PA to the directors which was a great opportunity to learn about the business itself and our goals. I’ve since had positions as the Hotels, Conferences and Meetings Reservations Manager and Account Manager before moving on to Director of Corporate Travel – it’s been quite the journey, but a wonderful one!
What does your role involve now?
I get to directly engage with some pretty inspiring business leaders, entrepreneurs and start-ups across a vast range of industries.
I work with our customers to ascertain their travel requirements and business needs, so we can tailor a bespoke travel management solution to their needs. This includes developing a unique travel policy which works for the varying needs across their business – it’s definitely not a ‘one size fits all’ situation!
My role also involves ensuring we’re adding value for our customers, whether that’s analysing their travel and identifying key insights that could ultimately improve their business, offering advice and recommendations or supporting with training.
In order to continue providing the very best for our clients, it’s also important for me to build and maintain good relationships with our partners, such as hotel groups, airlines and airports – that way, our customers can be the first to benefit from new services or facilities which could improve their business travel.
I also work closely with our Corporate Travel Manager, Emma Louise Forrestall, who looks after our team of knowledgeable travel consultants and I’m part of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to the business as whole.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
It’s simple; I love delivering excellent customer service – and even more so with the support of our expert consultants. Working together, our aim is to ultimately make our customers’ lives easier by truly understanding, and often pre-empting, their travel requirements. Doing our job well means they can get on with theirs.
Favourite place visited:
When it comes to holidays I have a mantra that I will never visit the same place twice, so whilst I will recommend, the world is just too big not to try explore. My best holiday ever was Christmas on the Maldives in 2011. People said there would be nothing to do, but swimming with black tip sharks and turtles as well as the rest of the “aquarium” of the Indian Ocean. That pacified me for a fortnight!

Transitioning from operational duties in to the customer facing role of account management in 2002
Something people don’t know about you:
I hold a season ticket at the home of the Scottish Premier League Champions and hence head north of the border every other weekend (usually)
How do you relax?
Spending time with my family at every opportunity, and socialising with friends
