Reubens Retreat to Renovate Main Building
by Traveleads | January 22, 2019 | CSR
We were delighted to hear the news that Reuben’s Retreat is to start its next phase of building work early next year at its premises in Glossop, Derbyshire.
The charity was founded six years ago by Nicola and Mike Graham in memory of their son Reuben who died of a rare brain tumour ages 23 months. Travleads has been fundraising on behalf of the charity since it was nominated and chosen by our staff in 2017
In the first three phases of development, the charity renovated ‘The Lodge’, a building which now offers services to support children who have a life-limiting illness and their families. Now, the charity is embarking on phase’s four to six, which will see work begin next door on ‘The Retreat’, in a derelict Victorian building, formerly known as Woods Hospital.
Nicola’s vision for Reuben’s legacy has always had at its core the ability to provide short holidays for families in need. “We use our small (but perfectly formed!) apartment in The Lodge at Reuben’s, but as it only has 1-bedroom and is located on the first floor it’s not suitable for children with limited mobility. That doesn’t stop us from giving families a much needed break from the challenges of care giving and hospital visits, we’ll just keep on using third party accommodation providers until we’ve finished the Retreat – then we’ll have 4 fully accessible apartments for breaks all year round!”
As always if you know of anyone who may need the support Reuben’s Retreat provides please do share these details or ask them to get in touch with the charity by calling 01457 680 023.
