A new six-storey car park with 2,700 spaces had recently opened boosting the number of short-stay car parking from 4,000 to just over 7,000 spaces.
The airport has the highest use of public transport in Europe, and now also has a great parking facility that is within waking distance of the terminal.
Around half of the passengers at Stansted arrive or depart by on buses, trains or coaches, but the airport says it want to have “convenient options to suit all budgets”.
Currently 28 million passengers use the airport each year and it is the fourth busiest in the UK.
Paul Willis, Business Change Director for the London Stansted Transformation Project.
“We’re investing millions to improve facilities at London Stansted and the opening of our new multi-storey car park is another stepping stone on the road to transforming the experience for the millions of passengers travelling through the airport.
“We want Stansted to be the airport of choice for passengers from across the region and whilst we have a fantastic public transport record with over 50% of passengers using coach, bus or train to get to and from the airport, we also want to ensure those who need to arrive by car or park at the airport have convenient options to suit all budgets.”
The airport is currently investing £600 million in which will be used to transform it’s passengers experience as well as planning a new state-of-the-art arrivals terminal in 2020.
