A growing list of airlines are refusing to carry the new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones in checked luggage and are advising passengers not to use the device during flights. The US Federal Aviation Administration announced the safety measures this week following Samsung Electronics global recall of all handsets after reports some devices exploded whilst charging.
The US Department for Transportation measures are in place for all flights to and from the United States. Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin Australia, China Airlines, EVA Airways, Singapore Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, Thai Airways and Royal Brunei Airlines have also implemented the ban.
If you are travelling with a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 do not turn on the device or connect it to any power source during your journey. Disable all applications that could inadvertently activate the phone and protect the power switch to prevent its unintentional activation. Keep the device in your hand baggage or on your person, do not place it in your checked baggage.
