Heathrow Airport protest – Saturday 1st October

A peaceful demonstration against airport expansion is expected to take place at Heathrow Airport on Saturday 1 October.

Heathrow Airport is working with the Metropolitan Police who will manage any protest activities in and around the airport or terminal facilities.

Roads around Heathrow may see a period of disruption around the middle of the day and customers travelling to/from the airport may wish to allow extra time for their journey.

Air France strike action

Air France has warned of flight disruption, last minute cancellations and delays due to a six-day strike, lasting until 2nd August, by several cabin crew unions. The French action is in protest at the liberalisation of European airspace by the EU, which would eliminate national air traffic controls in favour of an "open sky" plan.

Disruption predicted as Greek air traffic controllers strike

Greece's Federation of Civil Aviation unions have announced air traffic controllers will strike from Monday 20th to Friday 28th June. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office, issuing an updated travel advisory, warned: “There’s likely to be some disruption to a number of domestic and international flights in Greece, but it’s not yet clear which airports or services will be affected.”

Further disruption as French strikes continue

National strike action is due to take place in France from the 1st-2nd June, 3rd-5th June and the 14th June, causing disruption and delays to travel plans.

French air traffic control will work on a reduced capacity for at least 24 hours from tomorrow morning, following similar action since March.

Rail workers in France are also planning to strike from tomorrow, which will lead to severe cuts in national train services. In Paris, Metro and suburban train services will also be reduced, when employees go on strike.

French strike may cause travel disruption

Passengers travelling to France this week are being advised that they may face disruption due to a planned national strike over the next few days.

The industrial action is expected to affect both air traffic controllers and airport staff in France, which may lead to flight cancellations and delays.

Air traffic controllers are expected to take action on Thursday (May 19), although airport workers could stage short-team stoppages at Paris’ Orly and Charles de Gaulle airports from Tuesday (May 17).

Travel Warning: Forth Bridge Closure

Travellers using the Forth Bridge face major disruption following a decision to close the Forth Road Bridge until the new year. Transport minister Derek Mackay said structural faults would take at least three weeks to repair and safety was 'paramount'.

Inspections last week found a 20mm-wide crack in a truss under the southbound carriageway close to the bridge's north tower. The 51-year-old bridge is due to be replaced by a new crossing in about 12 months. Repair work is weather dependent and would be followed by a further week of tests and inspections.
