We live in an increasingly smart world, a world of smart phones, smart watches and now we even have smart luggage!

The latest must have travel accessory is the Bluesmart suitcase, which you can sync to an app on your mobile phone.

Bluesmart was created by a New-York based team of designers and is luggage at its most hi-tech.

The four wheeled carry-on case meets the hand luggage requirements for most major airlines, including British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. Even the low cost carriers Jet 2, Monarch and EasyJet permit them in the cabin. Sadly Ryanair don’t offer the same generous hand baggage allowances, so you won’t be able to take it in any of their cabins.

So what’s all the fuss about, what’s so smart about a suitcase?

Well for a start you can lock and unlock your suitcase from your phone. No more worrying about lost keys, or forgotten combinations. It will actually lock itself if it’s built in sensors detect it is no longer near you. The lock meets the global standard for travel security, which allows it to be opened and re-locked by security officials in many airports, should an inspection be necessary. The downloadable app will inform you if at any-time anyone tries to open it. If you happen to leave your case behind it will alert you to the fact by sending you a message saying "You forgot me!" (more of a travel companion, than a case).

Worried you might exceed the weight limits allowed by your carrier? The Bluesmart features a built in weighing scale. Simply lift the bag by its handle and it will tell you how much it weighs and whether it meets your airline guidelines. If for any reason you are separated from your luggage, or it is re-routed to a new destination, it can be tracked on your phone so you will know exactly where it is. Thieves beware! Bluesmart claim they will eventually be able to cover the entire planet, as the network continues to grow.

Other useful features include a powerful built-in battery charger. If you need to charge your phone, iPad or lap top, you can charge up to two devices simultaneously by plugging them into your case. An easy access pouch on the front of the case has been designed to protect and store your laptop or tablet.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any smarter, the Bluesmart can be linked to your calendar to remind you when and even what, to pack for your upcoming trips. The paired app will also provide you with useful information such as miles travelled, airports visited and more.

The app is currently available for iPhone and android users, however the smart watch app is also in development.
