Wightlink's investment project for Portsmouth and Fishbourne terminals

Wightlink’s £45million Investing for the Future project is going ahead with plans for a new ship on the Portsmouth to Fishbourne route and updates to port facilities at Portsmouth and Fishbourne car ferry terminals underway.

Easy-to-use double deck boarding ramps are currently being installed at both terminals increasing vehicle capacity, and improving reliability and punctuality especially at peak travel times. While these works are underway passengers should be aware of the following changes:

Flybe provides alternative route during the Severn Tunnel closure

Flybe will offer an alternative route for travellers between South Wales and south east England during the six week closure of the Severn Tunnel due to essential electrical work. The multi-frequency daily schedule between Cardiff and London City Airport will operate three flights on weekdays, and two a day on weekends. Flybe stepped in earlier in the year to announce it would fill the temporary travel void so that critical business links between the two capital cities could be maintained during the restricted travel opportunities over the tunnel closure.

Douala International Airport Temporary Closure

Passengers travelling to Cameroon may be affected by runway works which will take place at Douala International Airport from 20th February to 21st March 2016, impacting on all incoming and outgoing flight schedules.

From 20th to 29th February 2016: Flight schedules will be adapted, please call your Traveleads teams for further details on 0113 245 7745 or 0131 718 4000.

From 1st to 21st March 2016: Douala airport will be closed. During the shutdown period, all flights arriving in or departing from Cameroon will be operated from the Yaoundé-Nsimalen airport.

Travel Warning: Forth Bridge Closure

Travellers using the Forth Bridge face major disruption following a decision to close the Forth Road Bridge until the new year. Transport minister Derek Mackay said structural faults would take at least three weeks to repair and safety was 'paramount'.

Inspections last week found a 20mm-wide crack in a truss under the southbound carriageway close to the bridge's north tower. The 51-year-old bridge is due to be replaced by a new crossing in about 12 months. Repair work is weather dependent and would be followed by a further week of tests and inspections.

Cathay Pacific Heathrow Lounge Closed for Refurbishment

Cathay Pacific's Lounge in Terminal 3 of Heathrow Airport will be temporarily closed for renovation from today until June 2016. During this time, Marco Polo members of Silver, Gold and Diamond tiers, oneworld members of Emerald and Sapphire tiers and passengers travelling in First and Business class are invited to use the lounges of Cathay Pacific's partner airlines as well as Heathrow's No 1 lounge. All lounge invitations will be arranged for passengers upon check-in. The renovation follows updates to Cathay's lounges in Hong Kong, Taipei and Bangkok.

Final bow for Virgin's Little Red

Virgin Atlantic’s UK domestic arm Virgin Little Red ceased operations over the weekend.

The final flights between Heathrow and Edinburgh and Aberdeen using leased Aer Lingus aircraft ceased on Saturday.

A service between Manchester and London was withdrawn in March.

Little Red was established in March 2013 in an attempt to provide more competition on domestic routes following the takeover of BMI by British Airways.

But the domestic offshoot failed to provide the connecting traffic Virgin Atlantic had hoped for.

Chinese Embassy Public-Holiday Closure

The Consular Department of the Chinese Embassy in the UK will be closed to observe the Chinese National Day public holiday from Thursday 1st October to Monday 5th October. Applications for passports, travel documents, special visas, notarization, legalization and Hong Kong documents will not be accepted on these dates. Please submit all Chinese visa applications at the earliest opportunity to avoid any unnecessary delays.
